If you saw our feature on the 10 Magnificent Things You Will Only Find Inside Electric Forest, you’ll know that we absolutely loved the performance from artist Andy Frasco & The U.N. Frasco is quite the on-stage character, crowdsurfing for a beer (and consuming it) and encouraging audience members to pass up any drugs (and consuming them). Antics aside, Frasco and his band bring an exciting rock and roll boogie-woogie blend to each song.

The band recently released their first LP, Half A Man. Backed by the powerful guitarwork from Shawn Eckels and the booming saxophone of Ernie Chang, the pianist/vocalist rocks from cover to cover. The music kicks off with “Sunny Day Soldier,” a soulful, shuffling ballad with gospel singers behind Frasco’s raspy, entreating vocals. Bellowing “I found myself!,” Frasco finds the perfect way to start his LP.

Frasco then rolls into the upbeat, bluesy number, “Shakin Ain’t a Crime.” This song is all party (perhaps that’s why his site describes his style as “party blues.”) Somewhere between Jerry Lee Lewis piano chops and raw, powerful blues, the number proves indisputably that Frasco is here for a good time. Check it out below:

The album parties on in a similar fashion, with Andy Frasco’s sexy, gritty blues-based rock and roll powering the whole way through. Each track is its own dancing groove, artfully capturing the man’s unique jovial spirit. One of my personal favorites is “Commitment Deficit Disorder,” a bass-and-sax driven jazzier composition that hits low and rocks hard. Other songs, including “Don’t Ya Worry” and the acoustic-guitar-and-vocals-only track “What Would I Do” are slower, more intimate numbers that show off Frasco’s more soulful side.

All in all, however, this album is all party. It’s that bar-room, pool-house piano sound that Frasco delivers so flawlessly, combined with that booming sax and shredding guitar. You can really hear all these influences on the track “Main Squeeze,” an excellent expression of Frasco’s talents. Check it out below:
