Are you ready for some SexyTime? Meet the latest collaboration between two extremely talented buddies hailing from opposite ends of the country. Representing  the West Coast is MiMOSA, who has been tearing up the festival circuit as of late and joining him is New York City veteran Sleepyhead. Together, they became SexyTime– a moniker that almost perfectly describes combined sound. The duo’s first EP, Naked Poetry,  is available for download April 20th and may come as a bit of a shock to fans expecting the music to sound exactly like the two artist’s solo work. Gone are the hard hitting dubstep drops and hip hop inspired beats, there are no acapellas, save for some brief samples. This music is decidedly different – it’s laid back, smooth, chill out music – it’s, well, sexy. The first track, ‘You Can’t Hide’, sets the tone of the album. These two producers have created an atmospheric sound, each sound generating almost spacey vibes that are complimented with high pitched snares and pounding melodic bass. A brief vocal sample is repeated in a way that transforms it into another layer of instrumentation, adding to the overall sound. The next track, ‘Sour Grapes’, is probably one of the highlights of the album. It has a much more tropical vibe with an extremely catchy melody and an almost tribal drum beat. About half way through the track, the drums take over making the song just a little heavier. This song is a perfect summer beach style song and epitomizes the laid back, more relaxed vibe of the album.Another highlight is the title track, ‘Naked Poetry‘. With a heavy baseline that almost approaches some of MiMOSA‘s more familiar work, the song still retains the laid back feel through melodic synth work and an eerie vocal sample. The synths tend to shine on this album, as they tend to drive most of the melodies and dominate the sound. The amount of samples of instruments seem to be kept to a minimum so every little sound feels perfectly placed. For instance, ‘Always on my Mind‘ is constructed of several overlaying synths, one that creates the mood and vibe of the song, and another that keeps it flowing. There is a small, repeating baseline that is almost inaudible without a subwoofer, but manages to be an integral part of the song. The first single, ‘Lost In Translation’, got the video treatment and it’s an entertaining visual concept to see play out. In comparison to most of the videos glamorizing the rock star lifestyle and the twenty four hour stream of girls and parties, this video shows a darker side of fame. Shot in a stylized black and white frame, the video portrays a perfect night out gone wrong. What looks like the perfect set up – beautiful women, whipped cream, and champagne – takes a turn for the worse once date rape drugs are introduced, and before you know it, the guys wake up completely robbed. If you just caught MiMOSAperform one of his signature party infused sets at some festival or club, this album may catch you off guard. It’s a departure for both artists, but upon a closer listen you can really feel both of their sounds ingrained into the album. While these songs aren’t the hard hitting bangers fans are used to from these artists, the production is amazing and the album truly is a SexyTime for your eardrums.Track Listing:
