Stokeswood, the five-piece futuristic rock band emerging from the Atlanta scene, are kicking off the summer with the release of their new EP, 2075. The seven track album takes the listener on a journey, with heavy synth lines accentuating the emotional vocal performance. Somewhere in the middle of pop and rock, 2075 is sure to be an exciting jumping point for Stokeswood and their future endeavors.

Check out the leading single of the album, “Our Streets,” below:

We asked lead guitarist Mark Godwin to talk a bit about his new album and the band’s evolution. “To me, 2075 is like deja vu. We strived to make something completely new and unique, but somehow it still sounds familiar. It’s really the result of us flirting for a few years with a few different dance-able alternative genres and finally diving in head first.”

Godwin also spoke about the band’s sound. “Each of us listen to different musical styles, which is probably why our songs have so many different elements; just a little taste of this, and a little more of that etc. There’s no denying that Adam [Patterson] is heavily influenced by Paul Simon as he sports the cover of “Graceland” tattooed on his forearm, but if we had to settle on one band we’d all come together on Talking Heads.”

The Talking Heads influence is surely featured on 2075, which does its best to capture Stokeswood’s intoxicating live energy. “With 2075, I think we’ve come closer than ever before in harnessing the raw energy of our live performance into the precise yet smooth recording of the album,” said Godwin. The album captures the band giving it their all.

2075 will be released June 16th, and the band will be playing an album release party shortly thereafter in their hometown, hitting the Terminal West venue next Friday June 19th. (More info here). On the heels of performing with Ghost Owl (Ft. members of Perpetual Groove), this is one show you won’t want to miss!
