Live for Live Music is proud to premiere the brand new single, “Our Garden,” from Denver-based rock and roll band Fox Street. From the upcoming Authentic Western Style album, officially due out on vinyl and digital formats on July 28th, this is a stirring track that is instrumentally highlighted by haunting organ work and a triumphant brass section. Check it out below:

Of course, the booming vocals of frontman Jonathan Huvard complete the powerful tune; a singer/songwriter who makes his voice heard through every note. We caught up with Huvard to ask about his inspiration behind the track and the album.

”Our Garden” is a special song tune, and is one of my favorite songs on the record. There are many different ways to write a song. Each song writer has their own unique process. I’ll sometimes start with a guitar riff or chord progression, work it out about a thousand different ways and if it feels right, try and craft the parts into a song. There have also been times where I start with the lyrics first. Words after words and melodies after melodies. Throw the kettle on the stove, pack up the piece and go to work writing.

There’s also one other way, the best way- the tune that just comes out of nowhere. Lyrics, chords, melodies, verse chorus etc… It’s all there, inside of you. I consider that a gift from the higher, spiritual and creative realms. It’s the moment where a song is so clear in your mind and soul, that all you have to do is play it. Almost like carving a sculpture out of a rock. This has only happened to me a couple times in all the years I’ve been writing music, but it happened with “Our Garden.” It was a song that I needed to write. The song that came out of nowhere. “Our Garden” became the first song that we recorded for the new album. I believe “Our Garden” was instrumental in setting the vibe and tone for how the rest of Authentic Western Style was written and recorded.

We had just finished playing private event in Jackson Hole, WY. The gig was long over. The bar staff and waiters were cleaning up the venue, wiping down the tables and bars. The band was scheduled to play again the next night, so the stage remained in tact. James [Dumm] and I were hanging out on the stage having some beers, and picking around on our guitars. I told him to check out this tune I had worked out the week before. We began playing, and I started singing.

Before I had even made it to the chorus, two lingering couples from the event hours before were watching us play this tune that even James had never heard before that moment. The tune was “Our Garden,” and when we were finished one of the guys asked us where he could get the song. I told him, “You can’t, because I just wrote it and it’s not recorded, but if you come back tomorrow we’ll play it for you.” The couple came back the next day, we played them the tune and decided to record it when we got home. We got back from the Jackson trip, booked some time with Josh and away we went.

We recorded “Our Garden” and then decided to embark on recording a third record. Like the song “Our Garden,” our upcoming release Authentic Western Style was created in a very fluid, organic way. The songs fit well with each other, and I feel we made a record that truly moves and breathes. Authentic Western Style is more than a collection of songs, but a singular expressive body of work.

Everyone was loose and feeling good in the studio. We had written many of the parts prior to the sessions, however, during the sessions anything could be altered, changed or just thrown out the window if that meant making the sound stronger. There was a real sense of freedom to express ideas and interpretations. I feel that vibe translates when you put it on the stereo. We’re very proud of this record and extremely excited to share it with our family, friends and fans. We hope everyone will enjoy listening to the record as much a we loved recording it.

Authentic Western Style is out on July 28th, with the band playing an album release party at Cervantes in Denver, CO on August 1st. Check them out on their official website!
