The Band Is Bond. Comprised of Jennifer Hartswick (TAB), Freekbass, Razor Sharp Johnson (P-Funk/Bootsy Collins’ Rubberband) and more, this one of a kind ensemble is taking their love of all things James Bond and bringing it live to the people! It all starts with a major throwdown at the Brooklyn Bowl on February 16th, as the group gets groovy on Bond theme songs and orchestrated music from the many movies in the film series.

The project started as an idea by beloved bassist Freekbass, who tells us, “I have always been a huge fan of The James Bond movie franchise and music. I was listening to Pandora one day and “Diamonds Are Forever” by Shirley Bassey came on. I thought how cool it would be to play these songs live as a band. These songs and movies are timeless, and everyone from my Mom to a 15 year-old kid digs the James Bond movies and music.”

From there, The Band Is Bond was born. We’re beyond excited to premiere the first track from this new collaborative project, “You Only Live Twice,” produced by Duane Lundy. Check it out below:

What a groove!

Freekbass tells us how he went about getting this project together. “When this idea came on the first person that popped into my head to reach out to was Jennifer (Hartswick). The majority of the James Bond theme songs are done by females with very strong and distinct voices, and she was a perfect match. I called her up and she saw the same vision. We also would need someone who could orchestrate these amazing string and synth parts with groove and creativity. Keyboardist and funk legend Razor Sharp Johnson from Bootsy Collins’ Rubberband and George Clinton & P-Funk was a no-brainer. Razor is just getting ready to start touring with my band, so I asked him if he would like to do this too and he was all about it.”

Hartswick shares her love of James Bond with us as well, saying “I grew up on the James Bond soundtracks. My brother was obsessed with the movies for several years, even attempting to make his own version when we were teenagers. I’m so excited to explore this music in a live setting.”

We can’t wait for this show! For more information about the show, head to The Band Is Bond event page on the Brooklyn Bowl website!
