Minneapolis-based instrumental funk-jazz band New Sound Underground are releasing their second album, PUSH, this Summer. They’ll kick things off with a record release show for their new album PUSH at the Turf Club in Saint Paul, on Friday, July 22nd, with long-time friends SOAP and McNasty Brass Band.

Marked by their high-energy, all-instrumental performances, New Sound Underground has become a must-see band in the Minneapolis music scene. The band stands out with all original songs, engaging arrangements and exhilarating live shows. Drawing inspiration from a wide array of styles including funk, jazz, fusion, rock, soul, R&B, and gospel, the band released its debut self-titled album in 2013, a year they also went on to play the Telluride Jazz Festival. This success has allowed them to perform at prominent venues including Minneapolis’ First Avenue and Prince’s renowned “Paisley Park After Dark” series. In March of 2016, the band partnered with Last Triumph’s Take Off Tour to SXSW.

The album is accompanied by an in-studio video for each song highlighting the live recording, which gives PUSH its unique sound. The album will also be released on vinyl later in the year and will include three bonus tracks! To get you in the groove, we’re excited to premiere the live video for “Boys Gone Wild: Venice Beach.” Check out this band tearing things up in the studio, below.

“We wanted to make a live album in the studio that was paired with videos to give the listener something visual to go along with the music. We felt this was important especially since we play and write instrumental music. We tried capturing the energy we get when performing but the only way to really get what we’re all about is to see us play live,” said the band about their process.
