Without a doubt, two of the best guitarists in the business are Tedeschi Trucks Band‘s Derek Trucks and Phish‘s Trey Anastasio. While their paths have crossed on a handful of occasions over the years, Trucks has only made one appearance ever with Phish proper. On July 7th, 1999, Phish performed at the Blockbuster Pavilion in Charlotte, NC, and welcomed Trucks for a two-song encore that fans in attendance likely will never forget.

After a great show that opened with “Back On The Train” and a free-flowing, jam-filled second set, the night’s encore saw the band call on Derek Trucks for a pair of blues-based rockers to help close the evening. Trucks lent his slide to the ripping blues of “Possum”, followed by the band transitioning into the Son Seals cover, “Funky Bitch”. Trucks and Anastasio played off of each other to perfection, nailing the unforgettable sit-in with ease.
