There’s a reason this band is called The Movement. One listen, and you’re sure to be moving and grooving along to their reggae-influenced tunes. With a new album, Golden, due out on April 8th, and a major cross-country tour in support of it, there’s just no telling how high this band can climb.

Based out of Columbia, SC, The Movement’s newest album takes its inspiration for the inter-connectedness of the galaxy and human DNA. “I really started to like the idea behind the Fibonacci Code, the Golden Ratio, Golden Mean, Golden Spiral,” says guitarist/vocalist Joshua Swain. “I liked the idea of searching for order and commonality in the chaos. Add to that the idea of requiring a “heart of gold” to inject beauty and goodness into the order and using the word golden as a synonym for perfect… It just made sense to me.”

We’re happy to share the very first track from this new release, a song entitled “Dancehall.” Stream the new jam, featuring Mr. Williamz, below:

We asked Swain to shed some light on the track’s origins. “Dancehall started out as a slow acoustic ballad, but we felt it wasn’t really living up to its name, so we had to spice it up a little. We were fortunate enough to link up with Mr. Williamz, and with three distinct parts in both style and tempo, we created a unique tale of lost love, music, and magic in the Caribbean,” he said.

Golden is not only due out on April 8th, but it will mark the first release on the Rootfire Cooperative, a not-for-profit record label that is owned and operated by artists. Rootfire founder Seth Herman passionately states, “I hope the Rootfire Cooperative can provide micro-financing with the effect of boosting the artists business; and make a positive effect on an entire genre of music.”
