According to a report in Rolling Stone, the Red Hot Chili Peppers are back in the studio, looking to put out another LP by next year. The article features some quotes from the band’s iconic bassist, Flea, who optimistically asserts “that in a year from now, we have a record out and we’re on a world tour.”

Flea says that the band has written something close to 30 songs, though most of them will not make it to the album. The band does like to write more songs than they use, as their last album, 2011’s I’m With You, was later re-released with a bonus disc, I’m Beside You, featuring 17 B-sides and outtakes from the original sessions.

This time around though, Flea says that the RHCP are more comfortable with their new guitarist, Josh Klinghoffer, and that the band has been able to “establish a new language” together. Now, they’re “witing and rehearsing, rolling up our sleeves, getting in the studio and doing it.”

Flea was also particularly excited about the direction of the new album, saying, “It’s cool. It’s super danceable, funky shit and some real introspective, pretty stuff. It feels good, man, and it’s fun to play it.”

RHCP does not currently have any shows scheduled, but this new album is certainly promising.
