Grammy-winning trumpeter/composer Terence Blanchard returns with a new album Breathless on May 26th via Blue Note Records, merging funk, R&B and blues colors to create something unique and powerful. A reference to Eric Garner’s last words, “I can’t breathe,” the album is both a poignant statement and a staggering musical accomplishment. With his band E-Collective and producer Don Was, Blanchard has done it again.

We’re honored to debut the track “Everglades,” an epic composition written by the renowned pianist Fabian Almazan (a member of the E-Collective) and featured on Breathless. Enjoy a stunning live version of the track from The Blue Note in NYC, and a brief behind-the-scenes interview with Blanchard about the piece, below:

Breathless is available now for pre-order, and is due out May 26th on Blue Note Records. Blanchard and the E-Collective will be on the road this summer, playing the Playboy Jazz Festival, Monterey Jazz Festival, an extended residency at NYC’s Jazz Standard, and touring throughout Europe as well. The full schedule can be seen below, with more info on Blanchard’s official website.
