On July 13th at BB King Blues Club in NYC, Live for Live Music has put together an all-star ensemble to perform a Jimi Hendrix Band of Gypsys Tribute Set after Phish plays their final Randall’s Island show (get tix here). The group will be made up of Roosevelt Collier (The Lee Boys) on pedal steel, Jennifer Hartswick (Trey Anastasio Band/Jennifer Hartswick Band) on vocals/trumpet, Ron Johnson (Gregg Allman Band/Warren Haynes Band) on bass, and Adam Deitch (Lettuce/Break Science/Pretty Lights Live Band) behind the kit.

For those not familiar with Roosevelt Collier, he is affectionately known as “The Dr.” on the sacred steel guitar. Brought up in the traditon of the House of God Church, Roosevelt mastered the pedal steel alongside his uncles and cousins in The Lee Boys. At festivals, he is a sought-after “Artist at Large,” that has played with everybody from the Allman Brothers, the Funky Meters, Los Lobos, the Del McCoury Band, Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe, Conspirator, Break Science, and many others from various genres. Collier is no stranger to Jimi Hendrix, as he has performed the music of the guitar god many times over the years, including a set as The Bayou Gypsys at New Orleans Jazz Fest last year (check out the videos below and watch “The Dr.” shred).

Joining Collier will be a face familiar to many in the Phish world – Jennifer Hartswick. Known for her ability on the trumpet, as well as some seriously powerful vocals with the Trey Anastasio Band (and her own Jennifer Hartswick Band), Hartswick will certainly add her star power to a show of this caliber. Expect some incredible renditions of Hendrix tunes with Hartswick on the mic.

On bass, we have Ron Johnson of the Gregg Allman Band and Warren Haynes Band. Johnson has played with Aaron Neville, Some Cat from Japan, and helped out ALO several times in the past. He and Roosevelt are quite familiar with one another, as they have performed songs from Hendrix’s catalog in the past; expect a smooth transition here.

And enough can’t be said about Adam Deitch, who is becoming everybody’s favorite drummer. Deitch, who man’s the kit for Lettuce, Break Science, and the Pretty Lights Live Band, has had a spectacular year or two, and sat-in with just about everybody at this year’s Jazz Fest. And when we say everybody, we mean EVERYBODY! You couldn’t turn your head without seeing Deitch making a guest appearance at the multitude of venues and shows around NOLA during Jazz Fest.

This will be the perfect way to cap off a weekend of Phish in New York City. Grab a drink, take a seat or rock out, and let this incredible ensemble deliver you one magical experience.
