Colorado-based jamtronica trio SunSquabi kicked this year off in fine fashion, releasing their ambitious 7-track EP Odyssey to critical acclaim. The band focused heavily on defining their ever-maturing sound, and came out guns ablazing for the exciting release on All Good Records. With diverse musical backgrounds, the three musicians of SunSquabi emerged stronger than ever.

Today marks the long awaited unveiling of SunSquabi’s highly anticipated new record. The group has unleashed “Pygmy Up”, a new single featuring esteemed trumpet playing producer Russ Liquid. The track finds the Colorado-based trio starting back right where Odyssey left off. Energetic and seductive, “Pygmy Up” is the perfect pick me up anthem for any listener to enjoy. SunSquabi remains tighter than ever, and Russ Liquid’s monster horn section breathes new energy into an already-energetic group.

We’re delighted to provide the first listen for this great new jam. Listen to SunSquabi’s “Pygmy Up” featuring Russ Liquid, below.

SunSquabi’s Kevin Donohue tells us more about the new song. “This track is a really good example of this vintage feel that we are experimenting with in the record. In addition to using an old school techniques to record the drums, the keyboards are all analog, including a Hohner D6 and a 1960s organ. We played it out live a few times with Russ (Liquid), and his horn parts really added a new level of depth. When we asked him to record on it for the studio version, he went above and beyond at his studio in New Orleans, adding sax, trumpet and trombone for a full Russ Liquid horn section. The result is a very big room sound on the track.”

SunSquabi will be jamming on “Pygmy Up”, Odyssey tunes and more throughout their upcoming tour dates. The band is currently on their first excursion with bassist Josh Fairman (Analog Son, Kinetix), and you can see their full schedule below!
