Funk music was on full blast at The Hall At MP, as the acclaimed Foundation Of Funk group made their stand at the Brooklyn, NY venue last night. The band’s rhythm section was funk at its most classic, with drummer Zigaboo Modeliste and bassist George Porter Jr. from The Meters keeping things together. Add in the one-two punch of guitarist Eric Krasno and keyboardist Neal Evans from Lettuce/Soulive, and you’ve got yourself a tight-knit funk machine.

After an opening set from Pimps of Joytime built some anticipation, the group kicked back and dove headfirst into their funky tunes. Relying predominantly on The Meters’ catalog, the group had people grooving on tunes like “Cissy Strut,” singing along with the “Hand Clap Song,” and all out rockin’ with tunes like “Ain’t No Use” and “Keep On Marching.”

One of the highlights of the show was a sit-in on vocals from Alecia Chakour, a frequent Lettuce collaborator and the newest member of the Tedeschi Trucks Band. Chakour roused the crowd with a potent version of The Beatles’ “Come Together,” and stayed on to support on “Leave Me Alone.”
