Following a highly successful touring campaign that culminated with a landmark performance at Central Park in New York City and the release of his first solo record, Some Devil, Dave Matthews launched the first ever run of Dave Matthews & Friends shows in the winter of 2003. Matthews tapped some of his closest allies, including Trey Anastasio of Phish, drummer Brady Blade, bassist Tony Hall (Dumpstaphunk), Ray Paczkowski (TAB, Soule Monde), Tim Reynolds, Emmylou Harris and Spyboy.

On December 17, 2003, Matthews & Friends showed up at The Mecca of all venues, Madison Square Garden, and ran through most of Matthews’ new album, with Dave also giving the crowd tastes of DMB classics like “Bartender,” “Lie In Our Graves,” and “Satellite,” during an opening acoustic set with long time collaborator Tim Reynolds. Cover songs during the tour included Peter Gabriel’s “Solsbury Hill,” The Band’s “Up On Cripple Creek,” Paul Simon’s “American Tune,” and Little Feat’s “Spanish Moon.”
