During Phish’s hiatus, guitarist Trey Anastasio found himself collaborating in unexpected places. Anastasio was part of the Dave Matthews & Friends tours that ran between 2003-2006, and even played acoustically with Dave Matthews on a number of occasions. At the DMB show on this day in 2005, however, Anastasio plugged in and joined the band for a proper “Jimi Thing” at Randall’s Island in New York, NY.

In the jam, you can hear the whole band taking turns trading solos. With saxophonist LeRoi Moore, violinst Boyd Tinsley, and guitarists Matthews and Anastasio on stage, there was no shortage of melody making together.
