It’s an exciting time to check out the soul-pop group Lawrence. The eight-piece ensemble are working on their debut album, produced by Eric Krasno (Lettuce/Soulive), and just wrapped up a handful of dates with Blues Traveler. Led by siblings Clyde and Gracie Lawrence, both of whom are accomplished musicians and performers, Lawrence’s new music is guaranteed to get you on your feet.

While the studio version is still underway, the group wanted to share some of their new music. So, at 9am, the morning after a gig, Lawrence, dressed in pajamas (and/or a monkey onesie), ate some bagels, and played “Do You Wanna Do Nothing With Me,” the first single off their upcoming debut album, in their living room. The studio version, and much more, will be out very soon…

Watch this first taste of the new album below, exclusively on L4LM:

We spoke to Clyde Lawrence about the song, and he said:

“Do You Wanna Do Nothing With Me” is a pretty good reflection of what we’re all about, both musically and lyrically.  There are a lot of songs in the soul/pop world where the lead singer confidently and charmingly proposes a wild and romantic adventure to someone they’re into.  So we kept the “hey girl” swagger and tight R&B pocket, but I sang about finding someone to sit on a couch with, watch a movie with, eat take-out Chinese food with, etc., because that’s closer to my ideal romance.  For the live session video, we didn’t want to dress in suits and play in some dimly lit club or beautiful landscape, we decided to just wear our sweatpants in the living room of our own house.

New Yorkers who want to catch this band are in luck, as Lawrence has two upcoming performances during the CMJ Showcase, including a show tonight, October 13th, and another on October 16th. Details can be seen below, and you can catch up with the band on Facebook and Instagram as well!
