Though Phish may be known for their oddball lyrics, there’s certainly an undercurrent of love and family that runs through the band’s music and community. Thus, when the love-themed holiday coincided with their performance at the venue then known as the Great Western Forum in Inglewood, CA, the band wasted no time honoring that sentiment.

On Valentine’s Day, 2003, Phish hit the ground running with its song “My Sweet One,” and even debuted a cover of Dr. Hook and the Medicine Show‘s hit song “The Cover Of The Rolling Stone” immediately thereafter in reference to the band’s actual appearance on the cover of the March 3rd, 2003 issue. The show itself featured a standout “Bathtub Gin” with lots of teases, and ultimately closed with another love-tinged ballad, “Loving Cup.” Thanks to YouTube, you can watch full videos of the show below.

[1] Phish debut.
The Cover of ‘Rolling Stone’ made its Phish debut at this show, presumably as a nod to their actual appearance on the cover of the March 6, 2003 issue of that very magazine. Gin included Entrance of the Gladiators, Woman from Tokyo, and San-Ho-Zay teases. Trey also teased San-Ho-Zay in Walls of the Cave. Limb By Limb contained a Gotta Jibboo tease. A fan jumped on-stage and grabbed Trey’s microphone during AC/DC Bag before being dragged off-stage.
