It has been confirmed that A Tribe Called Quest‘s own beat-maker, Ali Shaheed-Muhammad, will team up with producer Adrian Younge to score the highly-anticipated Marvel series Luke Cage (starring Mike Colter), which will appear on Netflix. The news was confirmed by the producer and runner of the series, Cheo Hodari Coker, who also compared the upcoming show to HBO’s former hit series The Wire.

In an interview with EW, Coker explained: “Luke Cage will be “very sophisticated. I mean, it’s got a ’90s hip-hop vibe, but it’s really forward-thinking.” He later continued, “We have a lot of different musical appearances, but at the same time, we’ve got the Marvel action. We’ve got drama. I would like this to be, I mean, I know this is heavy but, The Wire of Marvel television, because we really deal with a lot of different issues.”

Both Muhammad and Younge are no strangers to each other, as the two also co-produced the Kendrick Lamar track “untitled 06 | 06.30.2014”, which appears on the hip-hop stars untitled unmastered. album and features a guest appearance from Cee Lo Green. And if that song (listen below) is any indication, the Luke Cage score is going to be straight fire.
