If you missed out on Grateful Dead “Fare Thee Well” tickets, there’s still a chance yet! Airbnb has announced the “Win A Chance To Be Our Grateful Guest at Chicago’s Fare Thee Well Show” contest, in which one lucky person will receive two VIP backstage passes and a chance to meet Bill Kreutzmann. Pretty cool!
All you have to do is be an active Airbnb host and visit the contest page between now and June 18th at 11:59 PM ET. There’s one question to answer: “Tell us (in 150 words or less) why you should get to hang backstage with Bill during Fare Thee Well in Chicago?”
Aside from that grand prize package described above, three first prize winners will receive (2) three-day GA passes, and 50 runners-up will receive autographed copies of Kreutzmann’s new memoir.
Airbnb is also donating a musically-themed playground to an underprivileged area of Chicago, as part of mayor Rahm Emanuel’s Chicago Plays! initiative.
In a statement about Airbnb and the contest, Kreutzmann said, “Wherever the Grateful Dead went — be it Chicago, New York, Detroit, or any other typical city involved in a typical daydream — we were surrounded by Deadheads… Not just fans; real community. Local Deadheads would host traveling Deadheads, and as the tour continued onward, the hosts would become the visitors. I get a little bit of that now, myself, as both an Airbnb host and as a frequent traveler. I love seeing that tradition continue, both within and beyond the Deadhead community, and I love seeing it extend out to the world community. So of course I feel a kinship with all the other Airbnb hosts who are traveling to Chicago for Fare Thee Well or who call it their home. It’s just another manifestation of the true spirit of the Grateful Dead.”
