New Orleans is the birth place of jazz, the home of funk, and the mecca of improvisational music. At times, it is, essentially, a living, breathing musical play land. That feeling only intensifies during the ten day celebration that is Jazz Fest. Each year, a seemingly endless stream of incredible musicians descend on the Crescent City to join in on the fun and excitement of Jazz Fest, and many of them are provided with a unique opportunity to play with friends from different bands and other projects that they normally only see at festivals across the country.

This year, fans heading to Jazz Fest have tons of opportunities to see many of these once-a-year collaborations, but there is one night that rises above the rest, with three incredible bands set to play at The Howlin’ Wolf on Tuesday, May 2nd. On that night, the already-announced lineup is a bonafide home run: The Nth Power‘s incredible ‘Earth, Wind & Power’ project will return to Jazz Fest with a bevy of special guests, Oteil & Kofi Burbridge will team up with Neal & Allen Evans for the second-ever performance of The All Brothers Band, and up-and-comers Organ Freeman will bring their brand of instrumental power-funk as the night’s opening act. Tickets can be purchased here.

Adding to the already ridiculous lineup is an all-star cast of musicians throwing down some classic New Orleans tunes written by the city’s resident musical icon, Allen Toussaint. Toussaint had his hands in some of the most iconic pieces of New Orleans music, whether as a writer, an arranger, or as a producer; he certainly left his mark on the city and its culture.

The tribute to Allen Toussaint, known as the “Allen Toussaint Jukebox,” will feature a full set of music from his prodigious career. The band will consist of Shira Elias and Michelangelo Carubba from Turkuaz, Sasha Brown from Sister Sparrow & The Dirty Birds, Todd Stoops from Electric Beethoven, and Eric Vogel from the Nigel Hall Band, and it will take place in the cozy confines of The Den.
