On February 2nd, Aqueous was posted in Philadelphia, supporting hometown heroes The Disco Biscuits during their Thursday performance. Aqueous’ opening set was short and sweet, with the New York-based groove rockers focusing on quantity over quality, offering five songs with a focus on extended each song through their characteristic and well-loved jammy improvisations. After moving through their own numbers, “Origami,” “Willy Is 40,” and “Aldehyde,” the group landed in a cover of Queen’s “Under Pressure,” a song that was heavily played in 2015 and bringing back the number after more than a year since it was last played during The Peach Music Festival in 2015. To top off their set, Aqueous closed with “Don’t Do It,” a song that has frequently made its rounds in their setlists since its debut nearly two years prior on February 5th, 2015, in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Clocking in at over twelve-minutes, Aqueous’ rendition of “Don’t Do It” from their Fillmore set showcases the band in proper form, with the quartet initially offering a tight and heavy groove and rock-solid harmonies and sultry lead vocals from guitarist Mike Gantzer. As the song shifts gears and takes on a more metal-influenced sound, Gantzer’s guitar work becomes more percussive before again returning to a more dance-oriented and propulsive jam. Eventually deteriorating and becoming somewhat spacey, Aqueous charges to the song’s finish with synthy effects galore ahead of the tune’s heavy ending.
