Anyone familiar with the HeadCount organization’s Participation Row knows there are a lot of great opportunities to get involved and participate in any number of different organizations that HeadCount showcases at festivals all across the country. For this year’s Lockn’ Festival, just like last year, the good people over at HeadCount put together an auction featuring a custom-made D’Angelico Excel guitar, the same kind of axe that Grateful Dead member Bob Weir played during the Dead’s Fare Thee Well concerts and at Lockn’ on Saturday night during his set with Billy & The Kids. The proceeds were split among the 22 charities along Participation Row.

Haynes and Herring Bring Lockn’ Festival To A Close

This year’s guitar was signed by an exceptional group of musicians, including Robert Plant, Carlos Santana, Weir, Phil Lesh, Billy Kreutzmann, Mickey Hart, Leon Russell, Dave Mason, Rita Coolidge, Warren Haynes, John Bell, Jimmy Herring, Derek Trucks, Susan Tedeschi, Jorma Kaukanen, Jack Cassidy, and every member of the String Cheese Incident and Umphrey’s McGee.

After an astounding 5,392 social actions on Participation Row during the weekend, the guitar was auctioned off to Shawn Kroop of Maui, Hawaii for a cool $65,000! Additionally, an acoustic D’Angelico, also signed by the same artists was given away in a free raffle that fans entered by taking the social actions. It was won by Jonathan Cook, a data analyst from Richmond, VA.
