On Sunday, this year’s LOCKN’ Festival at Infinity Downs Farm in Arrington, Virginia, came to a close with a final set by The Avett Brothers and featuring Grateful Dead guitarist Bob Weir. Following the phil.moe set immediately before it, which saw Phil Lesh joined by Weir as well as members of moe., The Revivalists, and Midnight North, The Avett Brothers took the stage, eventually closing out their set with Bob Weir for the final six songs of their performance and their two-song encore. Weir and The Avett Brothers are no stranger to collaboration with one another, as Weir has previously joined the group on a number of occasions over the past few years.

After The Avett Brothers’ solo set featured classics from their own long-spanning catalog. Weir first appeared during their set for Jerry Garcia’s “Mission In The Rain,” followed by an Avett Brothers’ original, “Go To Sleep.” From there, the crew moved into covers of George Jones’ “The Race Is On” and Merle Haggard’s “Mama Tried” ahead of their set-closing rendition of Bob Dylan’s “When I Paint My Masterpiece.” For their encore, the group first offered the Grateful Dead’s “I Know You Rider” before closing out the festival’s main-stage festivities in full with a rendition of the traditional number, “I Shall Be Released.” You can check out a full video of The Avett Brother’s set at LOCKN’ with Bob Weir below, courtesy of TAB Snaps.
