Fans at LOCKN’ Music Festival were treated to another huge surprise last night, as Joe Russo’s Almost Dead midnight set welcomed Grateful Dead guitarist/vocalist Bob Weir for a total of five songs. On Friday night, the Grateful Dead-inspired quintet–Joe RussoScott MetzgerMarco BeneventoTom Hamilton, and Dave Dreiwitz–delivered a stellar showcase packed with curveball surprises, including special guest performances from Jim James (My Morning Jacket) and Nicole Atkins. It was an undeniable highlight of Friday’s lineup, next to Bobby and Phil Lesh‘s reunion with the Terrapin Family Band earlier in the night. Super VIP attendees were treated to a surprise set from Bob Weir, Phil Lesh, and Joe Russo on Saturday, but the collaborations between the musicians were thankfully extended for all fans to see at the Relix Stage.

LOCKN’ Sees Led Zep & Dead Covers, Powerful Collaborations, And More On Day 2 [Photos]

Joe Russo’s Almost Dead relied heavily on the Grateful Dead catalogue on Saturday night, welcoming Bob Weir for “Black-Throated Wind,” “Good Lovin,” and “Jack Straw” early on in the set. He returned for a set-closing “Samson and Delilah” before a “One More Saturday Night” encore. The Grateful Dead guitarist has shared the stage with Joe Russo’s Almost Dead once before in Oakland at The Fox Theatre on 11/12/16 for a number of acoustic collaborations.
