Last night, Bob Weir and Wolf Bros, the Grateful Dead guitarist’s new trio featuring drummer Jay Lane (Furthur, RatDog) and legendary upright bassist, producer, and current Blue Note Records president Don Was, made a stop in Los Angeles for the first of two shows at The Theatre At Ace Hotel. Last night’s Los Angeles performance marked their second official show under the Wolf Bros banner.

Following a solid tour opener at Reno’s Grand Sierra Resort & Casino, Bob Weir and Wolf Bros opened up their Los Angeles debut with “Easy To Slip”, before working through “Deep Elem Blues” and “Gonesville”, off Weir’s 2016 country album, Blue Mountain. Next, Weir and Wolf Bros worked through “Loose Lucy”, “West L.A. Fadeaway”, and “Scarlet Begonias”, before closing the first set with “Easy Answers”.

Following a brief set break, Bob Weir and Wolf Bros opened up the second set with a hearty “Lost Sailor” and “Saint Of Circumstance” segue, before inviting up Janes Addiction’s Perry Farrell to assist on “Friend Of The Devil”. Next, with Farrell still on stage, Weir’s trio and Farrell worked through a cover of Tom Petty’s “Breakdown”. Weir played a handful of Grateful Dead favorites for the remainder of the second set, offering up “Althea”, “New Speedway Boogie”, “The Other One”, and “Going Down The Road Feeling Bad”, with a cover of The Beatles’ “Dear Prudence” thrown in the mix. With Weir on acoustic guitar, “Ripple” served as the two set occasion’s encore.
