Last night, thirteen-year-old Brandon “Taz” Niederauer played his first solo headlining show in New York City at The Iridium in Manhattan. Of course, we’ve seen him share stages with all the masters before, from Buddy Guy, Gregg Allman, and Warren Haynes, to joining Dumpstaphunk, Lettuce, and Umphrey’s McGee nationwide. Yet somehow the Broadway School of Rock star has time to work on his own career, as was exemplified last night in full force.

The band he put together included Matt Fox on bass, Matt Godfrey on guitar, Kendall Lentz on drums, Jamey Zebrack on keys, and Serena Fortier on vocals beside the young guitarist/vocalist. The group sold out the venue, expectedly, playing some great covers of “Sneakin’ Sally Through the Alley”, “Sky Is Crying”, “Whipping Post”, as well as some originals. As if the evening wasn’t already special, Macy Gray showed up for a sensational performance of “Winter Wonderland”. Matisyahu and his family were also in the house, though did not join the musicians on stage.
