Break Science is making all sorts of waves in the pool, merging funk with electronic music into their live band, complete with masterminds Adam Deitch and Borahm Lee, and backed by Lettuce cohorts Jesus Coomes, Adam “Shmeeans” Smirnoff, and The Shady Horns. The Break Science Band made their satellite debut over the weekend on SiriusXM’s Jam On, discussing everything from their unique songwriting process to the evolutionary nature of their sound, while giving us a few tracks to taste the electronic live band’s future.

The duo explains how the mash-up “Vibe Walk,” a song that’s gone virally popular in the Internet world, grew from an idea Deitch had one late night during Jazz Fest, to which Lee later brilliantly thought to incorporate the Kendrick Lamar staple, “Bitch, Don’t Kill My Vibe.”

They discuss the nature song vibes have with and without the full band for tracks like “The Spins,” a new song that sprung from Deitch’s beat-work with the Pretty Lights’ Analog Future Band, as well as the undeniable southern influences of hip-hop legends Outkast in their new futurized, electro-infused “ATLiens Remix.”

Electro-soulster Michael Menert ties together an old school vibe with the future of Break Science in “Goin’ Down,” sampling The Supremes’ Diana Ross with multi-era sounds in a unique blend of diverse genres.

Another brand new track “Android Love” impresses with special nods to Daft Punk, being the all-knowing inspiration to the entire scene of EDM, and Nile Rodgers, the sessions guitarist who played in Chic and produced the funk/hip-hop sample for Sugar Hill Gang‘s “Rapper’s Delight.” The merging of these worlds, as seen in Daft Punk’s documentary Unchained, became direct inspiration for the dynamic duo, and thus became “Android Love.”
