After months of anticipation, a super group years in the making descended on the Hollywood Bowl last night. Featuring the talents of Carlos Santana, Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, Cindy Blackman Santana, and Marcus Miller, a true supergroup made their one-off debut at the famed Los Angeles, CA venue, playing a Latin jazz fusion spread for all to enjoy. They shined brightly, much like their band name would suggest: Mega Nova.

“I asked them if it was OK for me to start a rumor that we were going to do something together, and they said, ‘Of course,'” Santana said in a recent Rolling Stone interview. “So I started a rumor, and here we are. And I feel so excited, because with these musicians, anything and everything can be transmitted.”

The band played a mixture of hits by each of the artists, like “Oye Como Va” and “Watermelon Man,” as well as jazz standards for all to enjoy. Really though, Mega Nova is best heard and not read… check out some video clips below.
