A new world auction record has been set for a classic Grateful Dead poster. An original of the famous Stanley Mouse and Alton Kelley “Skeleton and Roses” poster from the Dead’s 1966 concert at the Avalon Ballroom in San Francisco sold for a whopping $19,000 at Clars Auction Gallery in Oakland, CA.

The gallery featured a huge collection of Bill Graham and Family Dog lithographic posters, most of which were extremely rare vintage first printings and in near mint condition. The total collection of 70 posters sold for about $60,000.

Author Eric King, an avid collector of this period of rock ‘n’ roll history, attended the auction preview and personally authenticated the poster as the best he had ever seen.
