On July 26th, The Mischief Collective and Waste Farmers will host the inaugural Colorado Carbon Fundraiser, a benefit for the local Denver non-profit Natural Capitalism Solutions, a nonprofit focused on ecological sustainability. The Colorado Carbon Fundraiser is entirely carbon neutral and will be held on the gorgeous rooftop of Battery 621, making for a scenic event set to a stunning backdrop of Denver’s skyline and the mountains to the west. The evening will feature a collaborative live set by dobro player Anders Beck (Greensky Bluegrass) and double bassist Travis Book (Infamous Stringdusters), as well as a performance by the Americana act Coal Town Reunion. The world-renowned environmentalist Hunter Lovins—the president of Natural Capitalism Solutions and TIME Magazine’s Hero of the Planet—is also set to give a talk on implementing sustainable development practices.
Tickets cost $40 for general admission and $80 for VIP, with 100% of the proceeds going to Natural Capitalism Solutions. The price of general admission covers complimentary beverages, including beer from Avery Brewing and Yerba Mate from Guayaki, and a carbon offset of your transportation to and from the event, while the VIP package also includes access to a special after-party featuring a meet and greet with the artists. The fundraiser runs from 6:30 to 9 pm, with the VIP after-party running until 10 pm. At the Colorado Carbon Fundraiser, attendees will also be able to enter raffles for a pair of Icelantic Skis, ZEAL Optics sunglasses, concert tickets, signed posters, and more, with the proceeds similarly and entirely benefitting the chosen non-profit.
The Colorado Carbon Fundraiser came about when the two young leaders of the Mischief Collective, Tory Pitarelli and Hilary Gleason, made it an active mission to bridge Denver’s bustling live music scene with charity. The duo approached John-Paul Maxfield—the CEO of Waste Farmers and the lead singer of Coal Town Reunion, which is on the bill for the event—about throwing a benefit for a nonprofit of his choice, which started the talks that eventually resulted in the upcoming Colorado Carbon Fundraiser. As Gleason explains, “We know so many people who want to contribute to philanthropy, but it is often difficult to prioritize this as part of the daily grind. Young people, in particular, have a huge desire to create social good, but are looking for more tangible, impactful avenues to fulfill this. I see it as my duty to use the experience I have with non-profits, as well as a deep understanding of other industries, to create compelling campaigns that better the world around us.”
