Dave Chappelle and John Mayer have announced that they will be ringing in 2018 with a New Year’s Eve performance at The Forum in Inglewood, CA. The two will be reprising their “variety show” of sorts, dubbed Controlled Danger, which they debuted to considerable fanfare with two last-minute shows at The Fillmore in San Francisco earlier this year. Those shows saw Mayer cover Drake and welcome Bob Weir for a song, Chappelle deliver a 45-minute set of standup, and the two of them joining for some ’80’s favorites. However, due to Chappelle’s strict no-cell phones policy, there are no photos or videos available from the shows–just a tweet-long recap from Mayer. Now, those who missed out on the first two Controlled Danger shows will have a chance to catch this comedy/music collaboration in action in their biggest performance yet.

Mayer and Chappelle have a long history of working together. The two are known to be good friends, and famously collaborated for a sketch about how reactions to the electric guitar vary wildly by race on Chappelle’s Show.

Chappelle has surprised fans by joining Mayer onstage on multiple occasions, including the early-April sit-in/homage to the late Charlie Murphy that seemingly spawned the initial idea for Controlled Danger (the initial shows were announced a couple days later). Mayer also joined Chappelle for a night of his recent Radio City Music Hall residency.

The show’s announcement also confirms that Dead & Company, who is set to start their Fall Tour at Madison Square Garden on November 12th, will not play a New Year’s show.

Tickets for Dave Chappelle & John Mayer’s Controlled Danger New Year’s Eve at The Forum go on sale on Friday, September 29th, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. PDT via Ticketmaster.
