With a concert scheduled at the PNC Music Pavilion in Charlotte, NC this Friday, May 27th, fans have been wondering just what Dave Matthews Band will do. After major touring artists like Bruce Springsteen and Pearl Jam decided to cancel performances in North Carolina over the discriminatory HB-2 “Bathroom Bill,” the DMB have come to a smart compromise: donate a portion of concert proceeds to charity.
The band has chosen five groups to give donations to, including American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), Lambda Legal, ACLU of North Carolina, Equality NC, and Time Out Youth. The first three are spending time in the courts trying to defeat the bill, while the latter two are working with the LGBT community in North Carolina to fight for equality and provide support to any youths who may be struggling with their identity.
The DMB started their own charity, The Bama Works Fund, and have raised over $40 million for charitable causes since 1999. The band is not only committed to important causes, but they continue to impress with great performances on a nightly basis.
