In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Dave Matthews has confirmed that he’s in the studio, prepping songs for the rest of the band to come in and record as a followup to last year’s Away From The World. “I’ve been in the studio trying to get a couple of things ready for the band to go back in, having fun…I’m just trying to come up with something that doesn’t sound like the past,” he told the magazine. Working on the album will be producer Rob Cavallo and Doug McKean, who both worked with the band on 2009′s Big Whisky and the GrooGrux King.

Matthews teased some of the possible upcoming tracks, telling the magazine, “There are some songs the band has been playing for a long time…and then whenever I start messing around in the studio, I start writing, so hopefully we can come up with something worth listening to.”

No timetable is set for the album, but the band will tour South Africa in December and Australia in April.
