The Grateful Dead were no strangers to the music of Bob Dylan. Having toured with the folk legend, the Dead amassed a sturdy repertoire of Dylan covers to perform at their disposal. It seems that Dead & Company have followed suit, as the band continues to add new songs to their set lists this summer. Last night showed that Dead & Co still have more new song debuts in their pocket, as the group tacked on “Maggie’s Farm” in the middle of a great performance at the First Niagara Pavilion in Burgettstown, PA.

The band started out with a jam session that landed on “Hell in a Bucket.” With “Bertha” and “Liberty,” the band was off and running, before the cover of Bob Dylan’s “Maggie’s Farm” made its debut appearance. The rocking tune was a great moment and a highlight of the show, and tunes like “Cold Rain & Snow,” “Looks Like Rain,” “Row Jimmy” and “Throwing Stones” completed the set.

The second set brought more fire, as the band opened things up after the break with “Shakedown Street” for the first time since Citi Field. After a fun “Uncle John’s Band,” the band played their second Dylan cover: “All Along The Watchtower.” A great “China Cat Sunflower” > “I Know You Rider” let the band jam out, and keep things weird during the “Drums/Space” segment. A cool down “Black Peter” followed, and “Johnny B. Goode” capped off a great set of music. It was Wilson Pickett’s “In The Midnight Hour” that got the encore spot, played for the first time since New Year’s Eve. What a show!
