After spending the day enjoying some of the legal cannabis in Colorado, Dead & Company came out firing for their first of two nights at the 1stBank Center in Broomfield, CO last night. Opening with the traditional “Cold Rain and Snow,” the band quickly got bluesy with a “New Speedway Boogie > Smokestack Lightning > New Speedway Boogie” musical sandwich to get things shaking in the first set. This also marked the debut performance of the Howlin’ Wolf classic.

Guitarist John Mayer was in fine form, taking the lead on “Candyman” and “Bertha” in the first set, before Bob Weir closed it out with a combination of “Lost Sailor” and “Saint of Circumstance.”

The second set brought more of the Grateful Dead classics to Colorado, including a set-opening “Help On The Way > Slipknot! > Franklin’s Tower.” The band always finds their groove with that powerful trio, and last night was no exception. “Estimated Prophet” kept things shaking right along, and “Dark Star” led into a cosmic “Drums > Space” segment. “Black Peter” brought a tender, slowed-down moment to the show, before “Good Lovin'” brought it all home.

With a “Touch Of Grey” encore, the band wrapped up the first night of their second-ever two-night run in style. We can’t wait to hear what they have in store for tomorrow!
