For all the day traders out there in the scene, you probably caught the piece that CBNC ran earlier today talking with the Dead & Company ensemble, including Bob Weir, Mickey Hart, Bill Kreutzmann and John Mayer about their partnership with American Express for the upcoming FREE show at New York City’s illustrious Madison Square Garden on November 7th.

Grateful Dead Members Discuss Mayer, Mike Gordon, And More ‘Dead & Company’ Tour Dates

Weir tells CNBC, “It’s not like we’ve drawn the line and said no corporate sponsorship or anything like that but nobody’s come to us with something like this, with good ideas like this. There are now enough people high up enough in American Express who get what we’re up to and want to try to spread that around a little bit. And they have the ability to do that.”

Fans who score tickets to the show are encouraged to donate to the Robin Hood Foundation, whose goal is to end poverty in New York City. “Normally we don’t have corporate sponsorship but this isn’t 1967,” says Mickey Hart. “This is 2015. …. It’s a different environment and it’s for the good. [Robin Hood] has boots on the ground. They’re really helping people that are less fortunate.”

John Mayer also chimed in on his excitement for the upcoming tour, explaining “This is probably the most immersive, incredible musical experience I’ve ever been a part of…But in fact, it’s a really great opportunity to step out of that sort of monological, soloist-artist thing. I wasn’t getting bored of it but I was running out of new colors of paint to use, sonically and idea-wise, and so I actually get so much more out of it on a community level, on a group sort of creative level…it’s this real sort of nebulous democracy that takes place.”
