Last night, The Disco Biscuits took to Colorado to kick off this week’s four-night run. Over the next two nights, the jamtronica heavyweights will return to the Ogden Theatre before rounding out their time in Colorado with their annual performance at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison on Saturday, featuring support from Shpongle Live. Based on last night’s show, this run is setting itself to be one for the books.

The Biscuits kicked things off the group’s solid first set with “World Is Spinning,” a song that hasn’t seen playtime since the now-defunct Aura Music Festival in March of 2015. Following this explosive opener, the group moved into a cover of Frank Zappa’s “Pygmy Twylyte,” which was patiently jammed through to “Minions,” led primarily by Marc Brownstein on bass. “Minions” and its subsequent jam into “Voices Insane” was one of the heaviest jams of the night, making itself to be one of the highlights of the first set. The group then moved through “Stone” into “Devil’s Waltz” to close out the first set, harkening back to the last time the combo was played during last year’s Colorado run as an opener for their second night at the Ogden.

Second set started of with “Kamaole Sands,” which via a huge jam built slowly through to an inverted “Confrontation.” While the first set was short on time (the band started twenty or so minutes late due to technical issues), the Disco Biscuits came through for set two with more attention to transitions across numbers. “Confrontation” segued into an inverted “Little Betty Boop” and then to an inverted “Aquatic Ape” before making a huge return to the opening number of the set, “Kamaole Sands.” To close out the second set, the group treated Denver to a fiery rendition of “Morph Dusseldorf.” For their encore, the Biscuits broke out “Crystal Ball,” again bringing the song back into rotation following its last performance during their Colorado run last year.
