While the name Prince was certainly in the air after his recent passing, few artists have embodied New Orleans music like the late Allen Toussaint. For years upon years, Toussaint worked tirelessly with some of the greatest musicians of our time, writing countless songs and arrangements that were filled to the brim with the spirit of the Crescent City.

With Allen Toussaint’s untimely demise on November 10th of 2015, it came as no surprise that the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival would schedule an all-star tribute for Toussaint. The beloved pianist had appeared at the festival every year, and not many typify New Orleans jazz and heritage more than Allen Toussaint.

On the final day of Jazz Fest, Allen Toussaint’s full backing band, including his son Clarence “Reginald” Toussaint on percussion and son-in-law Herman LeBeaux Jr. on the drums, served as the foundation for the tribute. The band welcomed out a number of guests throughout the set, including Dr. John, Bonnie Raitt, Aaron Neville, Cyril Neville, Jon Batiste, and Davell Crawford.

Naturally, each musician sang songs that were written or produced by Toussaint over the years. Whether it was Dr. John’s “Life” or Aaron Neville’s “Hercules,” there was no shortage of emotional responses and great music.

You can watch a clip of Aaron Neville’s song below:

RIP, Maestro.
