One of Jerry Garcia’s classic guitars, Tiger, will be the centerpiece of a Grateful Dead 50th anniversary exhibit at the Chicago Field Museum. The exhibit is opening this week, in conjunction with the upcoming Grateful Dead Fare Thee Well reunion shows at Soldier Field.

Tiger was Garcia’s main guitar from 1979 through 1989, known to be a particularly heavy guitar designed with multiple types of wood and solid brass binding. It will be housed in the museum, alongside the official Grateful Dead archives from University of California Santa Cruz and a collection of posters from GDTS Too, the ticketing agency.

The museum will also play host to a very special Grateful Dead-themed jazz concert on July 4th called “Wave That Flag.”
