Ever since learning about The National’s planned tribute album to the Grateful Dead, we’ve been quite eager to hear some of the material. The Day Of The Dead album grew from one band’s passion project to a 59-track massive compilation, featuring an enormous roster of talented musicians contributing their unique takes on the Dead’s material.

With the album due out on May 20th via 4AD, the label has shared five cuts of 59 for our listening pleasure. The tracks include The War On Drugs, The National, Courtney Barnett, Bruce Hornsby & DeYarmond Edison, and Phosphorescent, Jenny Lewis and Friends, each covering one of the Dead’s many tracks for the project.

Stream the five singles below:

The War On Drugs – “Touch Of Grey”

The National – “Morning Dew”

Courtney Barnett – “New Speedway Boogie”

Bruce Hornsby & DeYarmond Edison – “Black Muddy River”

Phosphorescent, Jenny Lewis & Friends – “Sugaree”

All proceeds raised from the sale of Day of the Dead will go to benefit Red Hot, an HIV/AIDS non-profit. Check out the full tracklisting below:
