A few weeks ago, we told you about a special tribute show going down at the Howlin’ Wolf on Sunday, April 30th called “Fu*k 2016: A Funky Tribute To Artists We’ve Lost,” where artists will come together to explore the musical gifts of all the amazing artists we lost last year, such as Prince, David Bowie, George Michael, Maurice White, Leonard Cohen, Bernie Worrell, Phife Dawg, and the list goes on. The show will feature an awesome lineup of Michelangelo Carubba, Craig Brodhead, and Shira Elias from Turkuaz, and Joey Porter, Lyle Divinsky, and Garrett Sayers from The Motet, an exciting combination of two of the fastest rising bands in the modern funk scene. Now, the band has announced the addition of a sick horn section, as well as a number of exciting special guests.

Local saxophone icon Khris Royal, who cut his teeth as a member of George Porter Jr. & the Runnin’ Pardners and can now be found on the road with Rebelution, will pair up with former Tedeschi Trucks Band trumpeter and current SOUL’D U OUT band leader Maurice “Mobetta” Brown himself to form the show’s horn section. Of course, the Turkuaz Horns will also be on hand as special guests. This is truly a dream horn section.

Besides the horn section, there are plenty of amazing guests that will turn this show into one of the most special nights at Jazz Fest. D.J. Williams of Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe will be in the house to lend a hand on guitar, as will Danny Mayer of the Eric Krasno Band. Steveland Swatkins of Allen Stone‘s band will add his slick keyboard skills to the mix as well. Sammi Garett, Turkuaz’s resident pink-haired vocalist, will join her batterymate Shira to bring some harmony to an already outstanding lineup of musicians.

With such a ridiculous lineup of musicians at the Howlin’ Wolf for this show, and Revivalists side-project RumpleSTEELskin, led by pedal steel guitarist Ed Williams, set to open the night, this is adding up to be one of the craziest shows during Jazz Fest this year.
