British quartet The New Mastersounds are a staple of the funk scene, bridging the gap between the classic and modern sounds of the genre through piercing grooves. Whenever NMS hits the stage, the room is instantly transformed into a dance party from dusk until dawn.

Just two weeks ago, the band hit the Brooklyn Bowl for three straight nights of solid funk. With a new live album released a few days after, this is a band at the top of their game. Whether its the funky guitar licks from Eddie Roberts, the smooth bass grooves of Pete Shand, the tight in-the-pocket percussion from drummer Simon Allen, or room-filling, Earth-shattering Hammond organs from Joe Tatton, there was no shortage of grooving from this excellent funk ensemble. With guest spots from horn players throughout the weekend, NMS defied logic and put on an incredible series of performances.
