On Saturday May 2nd, the Brooklyn-based funk army Turkuaz will descend on Irving Plaza for a hometown show of epic proportions. Together with Black Taxi and Kat Wright & The Indomitable Soul Band, this is shaping up to be one fantastic night of musical entertainment.

Hailing from Brooklyn, Turkuaz is a non-stop dance party. The nine-piece ensemble always brings a great time wherever they go, and after their latest LP release Future 86, this group shows no signs of slowing down. Energy levels are brought to their height, and these musicians can seriously play. Drawing on elements of funk both old and new, Turkuaz keeps things shaking and always lets loose on stage. Expect a big celebration when the group comes back to NYC for a great night, with some great supporting bands on the bill.

Turkuaz will keep things rolling on April 14th with the release of their four-track EP, Stereochrome. The EP is an homage to some of the band’s influences, like Ray Charles, The Beatles, The Band, and James Brown, and a slight departure from their typical “power funk” sound. Not to worry though, because Stereochrome keeps the door wide open for the future of high-octane funk this fall, when the band will release their next full length LP, Digitonium. Whatever Turkuaz does, you know they’re going to do it well.
