Today, NASA‘s Johnson Space Center released a new outer space-themed video collaboration with rocker Grace Potter. The video, shot at Johnson, uses scenes of Potter performing her song “Look What We’ve Become” in addition to footage of women engineers, scientists, and astronauts at work.

The performance footage acts as the thread between several story lines that highlight the power of women at NASA–past, present and future–and the important role of each in human spaceflight.

Potter explained that the song and the video carry a strong message of female empowerment: “So much of this song is about when you are coming up through any part of your life and you face challenges, there are so many different ways that that can affect you and change the course of your life. I think that it creates a strength within you if you do make the choice to push onward and say, ‘I know that this might be more difficult than another path. That’s why I want to do it.'”

NASA’s hopes the video will help to inspire young women everywhere to plot a course for a career in science, technology, engineering and math, and then stay on that trajectory, no matter the challenges, and become a part of something historic.
