The organizers behind the upcoming “Fare Thee Well” Grateful Dead reunion shows have announced a partnership with Fathom Events. The reunion shows in Chicago, held from July 3rd through 5th, will be simulcast in movie theaters nationwide to accommodate a larger audience.

The shows will feature the “Core Four” surviving members of the Dead, Phil Lesh, Bob Weir, Bill Kreutzmann, and Mickey Hart, alongside Phish guitarist Trey Anastasio, keyboardist Jeff Chimenti, and pianist Bruce Hornsby. Initially some controversy plagued the ticketing method behind these shows, as a mail order system was overwhelmed with hundreds of thousands of ticket requests.

The band recently announced two shows in Santa Clara, the weekend prior (June 27th and June 28th), but have confirmed that the three shows in Chicago will be the final performances. The Grateful Dead are celebrating their 50th anniversary in 2015.

There’s no word yet if the shows will also be webcast for couch touring, but you can find out more information about the movie theater simulcasts here. Tickets will go on sale on May 4th, which is incidentally the same day as the Grateful Dead “Meet Up At The Movies” event.
