Soul singer Sharon Jones has had quite her fair share of trials and tribulations. Facing cancer on two separate occasions, Ms. Jones has always emerged triumphantly, powered by her ever-glorious music.

The new documentary, Miss Sharon Jones!, recently debuted at the Toronto International Film Festival last year. Fans who have been eager to see the new film are luck, as Miss Sharon Jones! will run in a limited movie theater run beginning on July 29th. From there, the film will be available for home video viewing in the fall, with digital, on demand, and home video release.

Directed by Oscar-winner Barbara Kopple, the film follows Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings during what was a chaotic time in the band’s career. Set to release an album and embark on the tour, Jones is forced to deal with her diagnosis of pancreatic cancer. Fortunately, her story is one of inspiration, as Jones set about on the road to recovery.

Below, you can watch Jones and Kopple talk about the film ahead of a screening at the DOC NYC Fest.
