Joe Russo’s Almost Dead just released the 42nd installment of their weekly series, Taper Tuesdays, yesterday, publishing the soundboards from their performance at Sunshine Music Festival on January 15th, 2017 at Mizner Park Amphitheater in Boca Raton, Florida. Back in March, the Grateful Dead-inspired ensemble released a recording of their performance from the first day of the festival, which was held at Vinoy Park in St. Petersburg, Florida. With this latest Taper Tuesday release, we can now all enjoy both Joe Russo’s Almost Dead performances from across Sunshine Music Festival in both St. Petersburg and Boca Raton.
For Sunday’s performance, the amazing Alecia Chakour sat in with Almost Dead for the set, lending her stellar vocals to the group ahead of her own performance with Tedeschi Trucks Band later in the day. That, in and of itself, makes the show worthy of a listen. Ahead of the final number of “Samson & Delilah,” Chakour took over the lead vocals for “The Stranger (Two Souls In Communion),” with her powerful, soulful voice masterfully covering the slowed down, bluesy tune.
