The soundtrack to The Late Show with Stephen Colbert is led by the musical bandleader Jon Batiste. Aside from his epic “Stay Human” project, which also acts as the backing band for the incredible performances brought to The Late Show, Batiste has organized some of the better performances to stream on late night television.

Welcoming acts like Alabama Shakes, Tame Impala, Run The Jewels, Willie Nelson, Brandon Niederauer, and even a Mavis Staples, Buddy Guy, Tedeschi-Trucks, and co. superjam, Batiste has a taste for music unlike most others.

Last night, Batiste took his main instrument, the piano, and gave a heart-warming performance of The Beatles‘ “Blackbird” in honor of the band’s 52nd anniversary of their American television debut, played on the exact same stage: The Ed Sullivan Theatre. Watch last night’s performance below:

The performance also came in support of Batiste’s The Late Show EP, which was officially released last week and is available here.

“The perfect soundtrack for your daily work out or weekly get down. It’s what you miss out on when you see the show on TV. It captures the music and the joy that the audience experiences when they come to the show live at theater. Social music on TV is such a great vibe,” wrote Batiste of his new EP on his Facebook page.
