Joni Mitchell may soon leave the hospital yet, as reported by Associated Press. The latest report indicates that state attorney Alan Watenmaker and Superior Court Judge David S. Cunningham III have appointed Mitchell’s longtime friend Leslie Morris as Mitchell’s conservator. This has allowed Morris to make key decisions about Mitchell’s health while she recuperates.

Mitchell has been hospitalized since March 31st, though the reasons have yet to be disclosed. Last week, reports suggested that Mitchell had fallen into a coma during her hospitalization, yet a message posted to Mitchell’s website indicates that she is both alert and expected to recover.

The reports are conflicting, because Morris seemingly filed a petition to be Mitchell’s conservator on the grounds that Mitchell was unconscious and needed someone to make decisions for her. Mitchell’s state-appointed attorney, Rebecca Thyne, said that she “believes it is very necessary” for Mitchell to have a conservator.
