UPDATE: Jam-funk bands Twiddle and Cosmic Dust Bunnies have been added to the December 20th lineup of the two-night Toys for Tots event!
Funk band Kung Fu have announced a very special treat for their annual Toys for Tots event. The band will bring out Steely Dan guitarist Jon Herington and drummer Bernard Purdie, for a live rendition of the classic Steely Dan album, Royal Scam. The 1976 album is sure to brighten any holiday season.
The two-day event is held at Toad’s Place in New Haven, CT, from December 19-20. Joining Kung Fu will be special guests Consider the Source and Gubbulidis (Mihali and Zdenik of Twiddle). Be sure to get there early, as one lucky guest who arrives before 9 PM will get two free passes to either Gathering of the Vibes 2015 or Kung Fu & Deep Banana Blackout’s Equifunk Escape New Years Eve event! The annual Toys for Tots benefit has raised over $13,000 in the past, and, by adding a second night this year, the band is hoping to fill a whole truckload of presents to be donated to children of US Marine families, at local hospitals, and families in need.
Says Kung Fu keyboardist Todd Stoops, “Nothing compares to the feeling of delivering a thousand toys, four days before Christmas, to the families of children who might not receive a gift during the holidays. For the fourth year running, our band has the opportunity to give back to the community that fostered our creative efforts and dreams, while at the same time creating a forum for our hometown fans, friends, and family to do so as well. I couldn’t be more proud of this event.”
Tim Palmieri, Kung Fu guitarist, added, “This is a night to celebrate and give back. It’s incredible, really. We have the time of our lives during the show and then when you think it can’t get any better, we get to play Santa to children who really need something to smile about. It’s truly something special, and we are so grateful to everyone who helps to make it a success.”
